ABOUT PROVINCETOWN

When the Pilgrims landed here in 1620 they were just the first wave to seek refuge on these remote shores. Those who followed were, however, much less puritanical. Fringe writers and artists began making a summer haven in Provincetown a century ago, and in later years the gay and lesbian community turned this sandy outpost into the hottest gay vacation destination in the Northeast. Commercial St, the main waterfront drag, has a nonstop carnival atmosphere. While the action throbs from the center of town, Provincetown also has quiet dunes where you can walk without another soul in sight and an untamed coastline with glorious beaches.
